Tips on becoming more grateful

What is Gratitude?

Gratitude is a warm feeling of thankfulness towards the world, or towards specific individuals. The person who feels grateful is thankful for what they have, and does not constantly seek more.

In short, the art of gratification is to become happy with our lives in the hear and now, and realize that no matter what is happening around or to us we have reason to be happy and thankful for.

7 Tips on becoming grateful

1. Live in the moment

Life is an exciting adventure filled with amazing experiences and endless possibilities. Don’t just go through the motions of repetitive activities and boring tasks. Not giving thought in our lives can make you more likely to take things for granted.

Don’t just do something just for the sake of it, actually make an effort to really enjoy the experience. You’re supposed to attend a meeting? Absorb it. Be outdoors? Savor the moment. Eat a 15-minute lunch? Taste each bite.

2. Become aware of your surroundings

When we feel inspired, we become more driven and when we become more driven towards a goal in our lives, we feel more alive, appreciate things more, be more content and live happier.

3. Don’t compare ourselves

Comparing ourselves to others is a natural human tendency, but we must try to resist this temptation. In life there is always someone smarter, richer, more attractive and the list goes on. We are all unique in our own ways and we must be grateful, thankful and truly blessed of our own individualities.

4. Appreciate

We must learn to appreciate what we have in our lives right now, a job maybe, when others might not be as lucky. A roof over our head, when others may not have that luxury. To be able to see, when others are in darkness.

We all something we can appreciate in our lives.

5. Be Kind To Yourself

Learn to give ourselves a break and not be to hard on yourself. When we catch ourselves with negative thoughts, we can turn them into a positive. So something like “I’m not a very good parent”, can be replaced with “I’m doing the best I can”.

6. Be present

Get in the habit of being fully present and not wishing for something in the future or the past, just be grateful for what is, it can really shift your perspective. Understand the thoughts when you start to go there and slowly bring yourself to the present.

7. Gratitude Journal

Grab a journal and write down everything your grateful for right now. Learn to add to it every time you do something amazing. Everyday write 3 things that you are grateful for that very moment.

By reinforcing the gratitude and thankfulness we have, we are more likely to build positive habits in our life and live a happier and more fulfilling life.
